Back to Basic - Wishlist

back to basic

As the weather is slowly heating up (apparently) I can't help but hope it stays cooler for just a little while longer. my wardrobe doesn't tend to change in the winter to summer transition, come rain or shine I will be wearing thick tights and something black. Simple outfits that are built around a dark colour scheme are my idea of perfect.

For the past couple of weeks, every time I've been around my town I've wasted an awful amount of time trying on clothes and lingering around Zara, All saints and TKmaxx. This over sized Zara blazer has been tried on several times with different outfits. The ochre shade works nicely to break up a black outfit and at £69.99, its not going to break the bank but unfortunately food shopping comes higher on my list of priorities.
Paired with a loose fitting black top (monki) the pricey Alexander Wang tapered trousers would work great for adding some texture to a simple get up. Accessories are a huge obsession in the Smith household, my mum has passed on the handbag, shoes and jewellery fetish to me and its an expensive hobby. Obviously Michael Kors is the one to watch when it comes to timepieces (sorry about the pun). All Saints city wedges are top of the wishlist right now as I'm finally embracing my height (5'10") and I have always steered away from anything remotely heeled, but who could resist these chunky beauties? Handbags take over around 60% of my bedroom and I don't think one more Zara beauty will hurt, will it?

A quest for 'natural' hair

That beautiful disheveled messy ballerina bun you re-pinned or the effortless tumbling waves that grace the pages of Vogue may look simple and oh-so-easy to recreate, but think again.

That chic bed hair probably takes a handful of products, pins and styling tools to create while leading you to believe you to can achieve the same effortless cool look with a shake of your tresses and a gentle chignon secured with a single pin. I know myself, If I aim to recreate the 'natural messy' style, I end up looking like my hair hasn't seen a comb for weeks or it falls flat from the amount of sea salt spray clogged in there from attempting undone beachy waves.

According to a few beauty reads, to achieve the messy look, you need to start with the right shampoo and conditioner. I've recently started using the VO5s 'Give me texture' range. The shampoo and conditioner are a great base for styling as they contain minerals and collagen to make styling easier whilst giving your hair a deep cleanse and polish.
Lee staffords 'big fat texturised hair super spray' is an unusual little product to invest in, It's unlike any product I've used before. Giving the hair texture, volume, a matte finish and a great hold the tiny bottle packs a punch and is perfect for enhancing your 'do.

Spring Clean Skin

With spring apparently around the corner, I'm taking early measures to ensure I have soft, smooth, baby like skin in time for the warmer weather (if it ever stops raining!)
Last week whilst browsing The Body Shop website, I finally decided to purchase a body brush and a small facial brush. The idea being that, dry body brushing will not only exfoliate and banish my dry winter skin but also improve circulation and fingers crossed improve the look of cellulite and when used with the sweet lemon body scrub, will leave my skin feeling and smelling fresh. The facial brush will hopefully be a clever investment, not only to aid cleansing and improve skin tone but it will stave off the want of a clarisonic face brush (for now) I'm hoping it works well alongside the fabulous Angels on bare skin cleanser
Moisturising my face is always a huge priority, Perricone MDs deep moisture therapy is a god send, but I've found recently I've been forgetting to moisturise my body after showering, silly me. L'occitanes Almond milk body cream will now be planted firmly on the desk for me to smooth on after my exfoliating routine. I WILL have the skin of a goddess, I will.

New nudes FOTD

I've been majorly slacking recently with my blogging (naughty me) I've been struggling to find words to write and gave myself a mini blog break!
I'm starting to invest in products that I know I will use again and again rather than throwing in anything in a nice packaging, so last week I finally took the plunge and splurged £24 on a tube of MACs famous studio sculpt foundation (shade NW15) and I am kicking myself that I had not purchased before now, amazing coverage for scarred skin but isn't cloggy and doesn't feel as though my skin is being suffocated, Hooray! Today, I set out to do Mothers day present shopping but ended up spending a sight more on myself, the pull of Superdrug was just too strong to resist and around £20(+) later I had a nice little bag full of goodies. Amongst my new products there seems to be alot of nude shades and brightening products, I was trying to embrace natural make up but once again the eyeliner pen jumped into my hand and slicked over my eyes (oops)
Firstly, Sleek lipsticks always tempt me, there's such a huge shade range on offer and they boast long lasting highly pigmented colour, so I just HAD to pick up this perfect nude lippy. 'Naked' is just what I have been searching for, perfect shade for a neutral lip, the finish is a little different for me as I usually opt for matte but I'm hoping my lips won't be drying out as much with this sheen finish. I was so so so pleased when I popped along to the MUA stand and to find one of the 'undress your skin' highlighters on the shelf (okay so someone else had it in there basket and I hung around until she decided it was too shimmery for her) so I snapped it up. I've been trying and testing various highlighters for some time now, I find some make my skin look greasy rather than glowing, but so far so good, it adds a subtle sheen to my cheekbones without looking caked on, winner!

p.s - I'm hoping to be back to normal blogging this week, apologies for the absence!
p.p.s - Sorry for the squinty photos I had a lamp glaring my eyes!
